POMMARD VIEILLES VIGNES

Pinot noir - 2,90 ha on the ‘La Rue au Port’ plot

The history dates back to the 12th century. As the word ‘port’ means ‘passage’, La Rue au Port referred to the route linking the village to the Beaune–Chalon-sur-Saône road, which carters were required to follow after paying their toll. The powerful Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament of Pommard held the feudal right of ‘rouage’ (roulage) for the loading and passage of vehicles carrying goods. This road, which was particularly well maintained by the brotherhood, enabled produce (mainly wine) from Pommard and the villages further upstream to reach the main road. A toll booth was situated at the entrance to the village.
